Cruz argues that AAPI communities have a unique role to play in the struggle for liberation. As people of color who have been colonized and marginalized, AAPI communities have a deep understanding of the systems of oppression that exist in the world. This understanding, combined with their strong faith traditions, gives AAPI communities a powerful voice for change.
Asiahood Theology is divided into three parts. The first part provides a historical overview of AAPI communities in Guam. The second part explores the theological foundations of Asiahood theology. The third part applies Asiahood theology to contemporary issues facing AAPI communities.
In the first part of the book, Cruz traces the history of AAPI communities in Guam from the early days of Spanish colonization to the present day. She shows how AAPI communities have been shaped by their experiences of colonialism, migration, and globalization.
In the second part of the book, Cruz explores the theological foundations of Asiahood theology. She argues that Asiahood theology is rooted in the experiences of AAPI communities and their struggles for liberation. She draws on a variety of sources, including the Bible, Asian American and Pacific Islander literature, and liberation theology, to develop a theology that is both authentic and relevant to the lives of AAPI people.
In the third part of the book, Cruz applies Asiahood theology to contemporary issues facing AAPI communities. She discusses issues such as racism, poverty, and environmental degradation. She argues that Asiahood theology can provide a powerful framework for understanding and addressing these issues.
Asiahood Theology: The Guam Years is a groundbreaking work that makes a significant contribution to the fields of Asian American and Pacific Islander studies and liberation theology. Cruz's work is a must-read for anyone who is interested in understanding the challenges and opportunities facing AAPI communities today.
