Author Biography

Susanna Kaysen was born in 1948 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1970 and attended the University of California, Berkeley, for graduate work in English literature.

After her stay at McLean Hospital, Kaysen worked as a reporter for the Boston Globe and as a freelance writer. She published Girl Interrupted in 1993 and has since written several other books and screenplays.

Kaysen is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and has spoken extensively about her experiences with mental illness.
