Cook and Moore were two of the most brilliant comedians of their generation. They were responsible for some of the most iconic comedy moments of the 1960s and 1970s, including the groundbreaking sketch show Beyond the Fringe and the classic films The Wrong Box and Arthur.
But behind their public personas, Cook and Moore were complex and troubled individuals. Cook was a self-destructive alcoholic who struggled with depression and addiction. Moore was a charming womanizer who was often insecure and needy.
Richard's book is awarts as she shares her memories of them. She writes about their early days in the comedy world, their rise to fame, and their personal struggles. She also provides a unique perspective on their relationship, which was often tempestuous but always full of love.
My Life With Peter Cook And Dudley Moore is a must-read for fans of comedy and anyone interested in the lives of two of the most iconic comedians of the 20th century.
Excerpt
I first met Peter Cook in 1961, when I was working as a waitress at a club in London. He was there with Dudley Moore, and they were both very drunk. They were ng a sketch on stage, and it was so funny that I couldn't help but laugh. After the show, I went up to them and introduced myself. We started talking, and I soon realized that they were both very intelligent and funny men.
I started dating Peter soon after that, and we were together for four years. He was a very complex and contradictory man. He was brilliant and funny, but he was also self-destructive and alcoholic. He was always pushing the boundaries, and he often got into trouble.
Dudley was very different from Peter. He was more gentle and kind, but he was also very insecure. He was always worried about what people thought of him, and he often tried to please everyone. He was a very talented musician, and he loved to play the piano.
Peter and Dudley were best friends, but they also had a very competitive relationship. They were both very ambitious, and they both wanted to be the funniest man in the world. This sometimes led to tension between them, but they always managed to work it out.
I was lucky to have known Peter and Dudley. They were two of the most talented and funny people I have ever met. They made me laugh until my sides hurt, and they taught me a lot about life. I will never forget them.
