McKinley was born in Niles, Ohio, in 1843. He went on to study law and serve in the Union Army during the Civil War. After the war, he entered politics and served in the House of Representatives for 14 years. In 1896, he was elected President of the United States.

As President, McKinley oversaw a period of great economic growth. He signed into law the Dingley Tariff, which raised tariffs on imported goods and helped to protect American businesses. He also established the gold standard, which stabilized the value of the dollar and made it easier for businesses to borrow money.

McKinley also oversaw a period of great territorial expansion. In 1898, the United States went to war with Spain over the issue of Cuba. The war ended with the United States acquiring Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. In 1899, McKinley also oversaw the annexation of Hawaii.

In 1901, McKinley was assassinated by Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist. He was succeeded by Theodore Roosevelt, who continued McKinley's policies of economic growth and territorial expansion.

McKinley's presidency was a watershed moment in American history. He oversaw a period of great economic growth and territorial expansion, and he laid the foundation for the United States to become a global superpower.

McKinley's Legacy

McKinley's legacy is a complex one. He is often praised for his economic policies, which helped to create a period of great prosperity. He is also credited with being the architect of the American century, as he oversaw a period of great territorial expansion.

However, McKinley's presidency was also marked by controversy. The Spanish-American War was a bloody conflict that resulted in the deaths of thousands of American soldiers. The annexation of Hawaii was also a controversial issue, as many Hawaiians opposed being annexed by the United States.

Despite these controversies, McKinley remains a popular figure in American history. He is seen as a symbol of American progress and prosperity, and his presidency is often seen as a turning point in American history.

President McKinley was a complex and controversial figure. He oversaw a period of great economic growth and territorial expansion, but his presidency was also marked by controversy. Nevertheless, McKinley remains a popular figure in American history, and his legacy is still debated today.
