Ryan Hyatt was a pioneer of the punk rock movement. He was the founder and lead singer of the seminal punk band 45 Grave, and he also played a key role in the development of other bands, such as The Avengers, The Germs, The Cramps, and The Damned.
Hyatt was born in Los Angeles in 1955. He grew up in a working-class family, and he was exposed to punk rock at an early age. He was inspired by the music of The Ramones, Iggy Pop, and The New York Dolls, and he began playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager.
In 1976, Hyatt formed 45 Grave with guitarist Paul B. Cutler and bassist Rob Graves. The band's music was dark and atmospheric, and it was influenced by horror films and pulp fiction. 45 Grave quickly became one of the most popular bands in the Los Angeles punk scene, and they released a number of influential albums, including "Sleep in Safety" (1980) and "Party Time" (1981).
In addition to his work with 45 Grave, Hyatt also played a key role in the development of other punk bands. He was a mentor to the members of The Avengers, and he helped to produce their debut album, "We Are the One" (1977). He also produced the debut album by The Germs, "GI" (1979),and he played bass on the album by The Cramps, "Songs the Lord Taught Us" (1980).
Hyatt died of a heroin overdose in 1991. He was 35 years old. Despite his short life, he left a lasting legacy on the punk rock movement. He was a talented musician and songwriter, and he was also a passionate advocate for the punk subculture.
