Marjorie grew up in a rural environment, where she developed a deep love for the natural world. She attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where she studied zoology and botany.

Conservation Journey

Carr's conservation journey began in the 1920s, when she became involved in efforts to protect the native orchids of Florida. Protecting the Everglades

Carr's most significant contribution to environmental protection was her work to save the Everglades. In the 1930s, she joined the Everglades Club, a group dedicated to preserving the natural features of the region. The Everglades, a vast subtropical wilderness, was home to a unique ecosystem that included endangered species such as the American crocodile and the Florida panther.

Carr campaigned tirelessly to protect the Everglades from drainage and development. She organized public meetings, wrote articles, and lobbied politicians. Carr's work gained international recognition. In 1955, she received the William Brewster Memorial Award from the American Ornithologists' Union for her contributions to wildlife conservation.
