A Memoir of Jewish Refugees in the Soviet Union

Justice or Show Trial is a gripping memoir that tells the story of Ephraim London and his family as they flee Nazi persecution in Poland and seek refuge in the Soviet Union. However, they soon find themselves caught in the clutches of Stalin's regime, where they are subjected to a sham trial and imprisonment.

London's memoir is a powerful indictment of the Soviet Union's treatment of its citizens. He describes the horrors of the Gulag, where prisoners were starved, tortured, and worked to death. He also exposes the regime's anti-Semitism, which led to the persecution of thousands of Jews.

A Controversial Publication

Justice or Show Trial was first published in the United States in 1941. The book quickly became a bestseller, and it was translated into several languages. However, it was also met with controversy.

The Soviet Union denounced the book as a pack of lies. The regime accused London of being a Nazi sympathizer and of slandering the Soviet Union.

Despite the attacks from the Soviet Union, Justice or Show Trial remained popular with readers. The book helped to raise awareness of the plight of Jewish refugees in the Soviet Union, and it contributed to the growing disillusionment with the Soviet regime.

A Historic Document

Today, Justice or Show Trial is regarded as a classic work of literature and an important historical document. The book provides a unique insight into the horrors of Stalin's regime and the resilience of the human spirit.

In 2019, a new edition of Justice or Show Trial was published with an by historian Anne Applebaum. This new edition has helped to bring London's memoir to a new generation of readers.
